What did you do this past week?

Throughout this past week, I spent a lot of time on my course assignments in order to try to finish as many things as possible and get ahead. I also was able to spend a lot of time planning and preparing for an event in my UTCS Pod. This week, we talked about career paths and had a board game day in my UTCS Pod!

What’s in your way?

As a person who does not like missing out on events and activities, I always try to be able fit everything on my schedule. Unfortunately, there are times when certain events and activities are held at the same time, and I have to pick between those events and activities. There were a lot of those instances in these past few weeks, but I am looking forward to a lot of exciting things soon.

What will you do next week?

I am looking forward to taking part in some of the upcoming events and activities being held by the student organizations that I am a part of. I am also very excited to be able to see some friends that I have not seen in a very long time. Overall, next week is looking very exciting, and I am thankfully looking forward to everything coming up.

If you read it, what did you think of the Paper #12: More Getters and Setters?

I thought that the paper on getter and setter functions this week was very interesting and provided many good points and ideas behind designing programs in the best way in an Object Oriented Design context. I think that this paper and last week’s paper have really helped me in keeping the best practices when designing my solution for the Darwin project.

What was your experience of initializations, copy constructor, copy assignment, move constructor, and move assignment?

I have had a good amount of experience with initializations, copy constructor, and copy assignment so the topics were not too unfamiliar to me. However, I was not too familiar with the move constructor or move assignment, so I am really happy to have been able to learn more about these topics in the recent lectures.

What made you happy this week?

I was really happy to be able to go back home to Houston and visit my family during this weekend. I had been really missing them as I had only gone home once since the beginning of the semester. I was also really happy to have had a great time with my students this past week in our UTCS Pod.

What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?

I highly recommend a laptop case or laptop sleeve for all developers who consistently carry their laptops around and develop software in many different locations. By having a laptop case or laptop sleeve, developers are able to protect their laptop while being able to safely carry the device around and continue effectively developing software overall.
