CS 371P Fall 2021: Bruce Nguyen
What did you do this past week?
During this past week, I took the time to study and prepare for an exam that I had on Wednesday. I also spent some time working on the assignments in my courses. Along with these things, I was also able to spend some time on planning activities for my UTCS Pod.
What’s in your way?
Recently, a very popular food truck that I usually get food from has moved away from campus. It was saddening to hear the news but I am happy that I was able to enjoy the wonderful food from there for the last few years. Thankfully, there are still other locations further from campus that serve the same food!
What will you do next week?
I will be taking the time to complete the Darwin project in my Object Oriented Programming class in this upcoming week. I will also be taking part in a few of the events and activities held by some of the student organizations that I am a part of. I am also looking forward to having a good time with my UTCS Pod!
If you read it, what did you think of the Paper #11: Getters and Setters?
I think that the paper really helped inform me of the reasonings behind why getter and setter functions may introduce issues in an Object Oriented Design. As the getter and setter functions might seem like intuitive solutions to common problems, it is important to realize the tradeoffs of such an implementation.
What was your experience of vector?
I have been able to utilize vectors a decent amount of times throughout my Object Oriented Programming course, but have really found it useful to be able to personally take the time to implement a vector class through the recent exercises in class. I think that the recent lectures and exercises in class have really helped me in furthering my understanding of the implementation details of a vector.
What made you happy this week?
I was really happy to be able to hold a joint Pod event with one of my close friends who is also a UTCS Pod Mentor. Our students were able to take part in interactive team activities and competitions while enjoying the food and refreshments provided. I definitely look forward to many other events like this in the future.
What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?
I think that it is definitely important to keep a consistent sleep schedule in order to maximize focus and productivity as a developer. Personally, I always try to get at least eight hours of sleep per night in order to feel rested and energized for the next day.
